Post Weld Heat Treatment also referred as (PWHT) it is a process that reduces the residual stresses formed during welding. The process consists of heating, soaking and cooling the weld area in a controlled manner to a specific temperature below the first transformation point. This also gives the macro structure sufficient time to readjust to its original state and remove the residual stress. Lastly, it also restores the macro structure of the steel.
Benefits of Resistance Post-Weld Heat Treating?
- Improved Metallurgical Structure
- Reduces the stress that induces cracking
- Strength of the Material & Life of the equipment is enhanced
