Electric-based process heating systems use electric currents or electromagnetic waves to heat materials, usually metals. These methods generate heat within the work piece itself, by either (a) passing an electrical current through the material (b) inducing an electrical current (eddy current) into the material, or (c) exciting atoms and/or molecules within the material with electromagnetic fields. Indirect heating methods use one of these three methods to apply heat to the work piece surface or to a material which transfers the heat to the work piece.
